Trek update: 205 miles down, 1100 to go

Broke the 200-mile mark today and posted a decent time (2:56, 16:11/mile) doing it. The weather has warmed up quite a bit, with highs in the upper 70s and lower 80s, along with late afternoon thunderstorms.

I’m slightly behind schedule (220 miles/month), due largely to the combination last week of the blizzard and and the business trip to New York. On the other hand, my body probably appreciated the rest, and I shouldn’t have any trouble making up for it in May.  ..bruce..

Trek update: 194 miles walked, 1111 to go

Back in Colorado, gorgeous day. Did the usual route.  ..bruce..

Trek update: Manhattan (182 miles walked, 1122 to go)

OK, I missed the last two days because of the blizzard that hit on Tuesday, leaving 6″ or so of “slushee” snow (Wednesday was mostly clear, but I would have spent most of the 11-mile route squishing through mud). So now I’m in Manhattan on business, and I walked from the the very south end of Broadway up to Times Square, then over to my hotel. That works out to around 4.7 miles. Since I spent time traipsing through both Denver International and O’Hare Airports today (changing gates in the latter), I feel justified in adding on at least another 0.3 miles, making it 5.0 for the day.  ..bruce..

No trek today, there’s a blizzard outside

You think I’m kidding? Snow is falling, with wind gusts >30 mph. Nothing is sticking so far, but if I can trust the weather forecasters (who don’t have the best track record, frankly), we could see 6″ to 12″ of snow by tomorrow morning.

Personally, I blame Bush. ..bruce..

Trek update: 178 miles walked, 1127 to go

I walked my standard 11-mile route clockwise today for the first time (up until now, I’ve been walking it counterclockwise). It’s like a whole new route: the up-and-down pattern is reversed, the ground underfoot is different, and the landscape when I look up is different as well. A couple of hills along the way seem a lot steeper when I’m walking up them than when I’m walking down. I’ll continue to switch back and forth between the two directions just to keep things interesting. I’ll probably also lay out at least one other route as well, for the same reason. ..bruce..
